Protecting healthcare workers and patients alike

Ansell Professional Healthcare: global market leader in surgical gloves, number 2 in examination gloves

The last few years witnessed a rapid expansion of the medical gloves market globally. A major driver for this growth is the increasing awareness by healthcare workers of gloves offering an effective protective barrier. The risks are real. Every year, 3 out of 35 million healthcare workers are exposed to blood-borne pathogens (Hepatitis B, C and HIV). As antibiotic resistance spreads, hospital-acquired infections are growing alarmingly. And with the cancer rate increasing exponentially (by 50% in 2020, according to WHO), more and more hazardous cytostatics are handled. The use of high-quality medical gloves has become a must to safeguard healthcare workers and patients alike. More than boosting the number of medical gloves sold, this insight also leads to a shift in purchase decisions: in spite of today’s budgetary challenges, hospitals increasingly use 'quality' as a prime purchase decision factor.

At the forefront of research into latex allergies

Ever since the very first recognition of the latex sensitivity problem, over 15 years ago, Ansell Healthcare has been taking a proactive role in allergy management. Following special research efforts to reduce the onset of latex allergies, Ansell Healthcare’s glove manufacturing process has become the most effective at decreasing latex protein content of latex gloves. The introduction of low-allergen gloves, combined with the promotion of powder-free gloves, has reduced the prevalence of NRL allergies substantially. For users suffering from type I latex allergies, Ansell Healthcare provides a wide choice of synthetic gloves.

Ansell Cytostatics Permeation Programme (ACPP)

In cooperation with the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), Ansell Healthcare built a unique dynamic testing device to measure the permeation rate of medical gloves for the most widely used types of cytostatics. Data sourced from this scientific research provide more accurate and safer guidelines for gloves used when handling chemotherapy drugs. Quite recently, Ansell Healthcare's ongoing commitment towards this issue resulted in the launch of the  Gammex® XP™, a brand-new glove that offers extra protection when handling cytostatic agents.

AnsellCares: promoting education and greater awareness

In line with Ansell Healthcare's commitment to foster education and further awareness on the value of proper barrier protection, the Company has created the AnsellCares programme. Through both offline and online resources, AnsellCares supports tightly-focused research into infection control, hand hygiene and skin care. The up-to-date information is vetted by a Scientific Advisory Network, which is composed of leading independent scientists, physicians, educators and researchers from around  the globe.
