ENVIRONMENT

Ansell Limited committed to protecting the environment and minimizing any environmental impacts of its operations. The company believes that environmental stewardship is the responsibility of all employees, and environmental issues are communicated, tracked and reported at all levels of the organization.

Ansell's Environmental Management System (EMS) and policies are based on the international ISO 14000 standards for environment management. All of our nine (9) major manufacturing sites are certified to ISO14001:2004.

ANSELL'S ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Ansell Limited is a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC). The APC is a voluntary initiative by the Australian government and industry to reduce the environmental effects of packaging. Ansell is committed to the APC’s objectives and goals to make a difference by minimising the environmental impact of packaging.

Ansell's environmental standard is to Start Clean - Run Clean - Leave Clean.

Start Clean: Ansell's protocol requires all new sites, whether leased or acquired, to be appropriately surveyed to identify any pre-existing contamination and / or compliance issues.

Run Clean: Each facility, at a minimum, must maintain an EMS in accordance with Ansell's environmental standard, and upon certification, ISO14001. The following EMS elements are particularly relevant to the Run Clean principle:

Staffs have an understanding of environmental legislation applicable to their business.

Environmental training is conducted on general awareness and specific procedures.

Annual Environmental Audits must be conducted at each major manufacturing site.

Environmental registers are maintained to provide data on environmental exposures.

Reporting mechanisms must be in place to ensure environmental status is reported to senior management.

Leave Clean: Ansell's protocol ensures that properties are assessed for contamination before divestment

Our sound environmental management is shown in the way we have successfully implemented a Green Productivity program focused on energy management.
