Ansell Turkey Supports Search & Rescue Following the Izmir Earthquake

On 30 October 2020, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the Aegean Sea. The force of the earthquake flattened buildings in Turkey and Greece.

The event demolished 17 buildings, destructed over 1000 buildings, injured 1034 people, and resulted in the deaths of 114 victims in Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city. Two more people died on the Greek island of Samos, which lies south of the epicenter of the earthquake.

Approximately 1000 rescue teams have been working non-stop since the day of the incident, pulling more than 100 survivors trapped in the rubble.

Ansell has donated critically needed PPE to AKUT, a local non-profit search and rescue organization. 1,126 pairs of HyFlex® gloves and 50 pairs of Ringers gloves were donated to protect the frontline workers undertaking the rescue and recovery efforts.

Fortunately, our Ansell colleagues in Turkey and their families are all safe.

Special thank you to Ansell donation team for their quick action in making the donation possible. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our distribution partners in Turkey, Nam and Istanbul Ticaret (Bunzl), for their swift response to deliver needed gloves to AKUT on the same day.
