ANSELL ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN O.R. NURSE HERO AWARD WINNERS

1 July 2015 – Brussels, Belgium – Ansell, a global leader in protection solutions, is proud to announce the winners of the first Ansell Cares® H.E.R.O. Service Award for European Operating Room (O.R.) Nurses. The 2015 award, organised in partnership with the European Operating Room Nurses Association (EORNA), recognizes perioperative nurses who display exceptional skill and quality in patient care, and present an in-depth commitment to staff education and development. Award ceremonies are taking place today in the winners’ respective hospitals in five European countries.

“We received over 150 nominations from 20 European countries, with an impressive range of specialisations, human skills and leadership roles,” says Peter Dobbelsteijn, Chief Commercial Officer EMEA & APAC Region at Ansell. “People from 71 countries cast over 156 000 votes for their nurse heroes and helped spread the news, making this a truly international award. We would like to thank them for celebrating with us the key role perioperative nurses play in delivering positive healthcare outcomes.”

Fellow nurses, doctors and surgeons were invited to nominate their perioperative nurse heroes and to vote online for the ones selected. The top 5 nominees with the most votes received the H.E.R.O. award and were allowed to designate a surgery-related charity to receive an Ansell donation of 2500 euros. The winners are:

- İlknur Yayla, Turkey, Acıbadem Kozyatağı Hastanesi – chose Friends of African Nurses (FoAN) charity

- Mateja Stare, Slovenia, University Medical Centre Ljubljana – split her donation between Médecins sans Frontières (Austria) and Operation Smile (U.K.)

- Enrique Cosme Pereira, Spain, Innova Ocular Clínicas Oculsur – opted to donate to Lifebox charity

- Irina Lampinen, Estonia, Tartu University Hospital – selected Châine de l’Espoir- Keten van Hoop (Belgium)

- Sandra Morton, Ireland, St James's Hospital – chose Friends of African Nurses (FoAN) charity

Nominations were vetted in partnership with EORNA. Ansell Healthcare supports EORNA’s Accreditation Council for Education (ACE) with specific courses from its Ansell Cares educational programme. We appreciated the opportunity to acknowledge that special colleague who contributes so much to our profession and deserves to be recognized.”
