Because chemical hazards can come in many different physical forms, such as fumes or dust, they are not always visible.

Are chemical hazards always visible?

Chemical hazards are made up of chemical substances which can take a variety of forms such as solids, liquids, gases, mists, vapors, fumes, and dust.

A chemical substance can change forms, and at times are present in a form that cannot be seen or smelled. Therefore, this renders it undetectable. As a result of that, chemical hazards are not always visible because it cannot be detected when it changes to a form that is not easily distinguished.

Additionally, detecting some forms of chemicals may also be challenging. Chemicals in solid or liquid form are easier to recognize as they can be seen. However, chemical substances in the form of mists and dust may not be visible, as it is dependent on the size and concentration of the chemical.

Furthermore, chemical hazards in the form of fumes, gases, and vapors are usually invisible. For example, a liquid solvent can evaporate and then give off vapors that are not visible, although it can still be inhaled.
