Washing cut-resistant gloves helps extend wear life and minimizes the spread of viruses. This article will provide the best way to wash cut-resistant gloves.

Can you wash cut-resistant gloves?

Summary

Yes, you can. In fact, experts recommend proper care and cleanliness of cut-resistant gloves and sleeves to extend wear life and minimize the spread of viruses. Due to the variety of coatings and fabrics, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when cleaning cut-resistant PPE. Follow the steps below for proper care of hand and arm PPE:

Polyamide materials (Nylon) & Para-aramid fibers (DuPont™ Kevlar®)

  • Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do not use dry cleaning solutions)
  • Wash for 10 minutes in warm water, do not exceed 104°F
  • Rinse in tempered water 104°F
  • If soiling is especially heavy, repeat the wash and rinse cycles
  • Tumble dry – maximum temperature 104°F

When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps to loosen and remove deep-rooted dirt.

High-performance polyethylene

  • Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (bleaching may help restore whiteness)
  • Wash for 10 minutes in warm water, do not exceed 104°F
  • Rinse in cold water
  • Use high-speed spin extraction for best results
  • Tumble dry - do not exceed 104°F or dry longer than 10 minutes
