Are nitrile gloves chemical resistant?

Yes, nitrile offers the broadest chemical resistance, which makes it very versatile across many industries. Because it is a synthetic polymer, nitrile eliminates the risk of latex allergy concerns among users. Nitrile is made from nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and it is the most widely used synthetic rubber polymer in today’s glove manufacturing process. The composition of modern nitrile is thin yet exceptionally strong and delivers necessary tactility with a high resistance to punctures and tears. It can be found in disposable or reusable gloves or even as a dipped coating on chemical and mechanical gloves.

Nitrile gloves are made of a copolymer and protect from chlorinated solvents such as trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene. Although intended for jobs requiring dexterity and sensitivity, nitrile gloves also offer superior chemical and abrasion resistance while standing up to heavy use even after prolonged exposure to substances that cause other gloves to deteriorate. They offer protection when working with oils, greases, acids, caustics and alcohols but are generally not recommended for use with strong oxidizing agents, aromatic solvents, ketones and acetates.
