KOSHA Safety Certification Symbol

In Korea, safety certification for PPE is a mandatory system that requires protective equipment to affix the KCs mark if the equipment meets the requirements stipulated in all applicable regulations. This certification shall be achieved through Korean safety certification institutions, such as the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL). To permit the use of a mark on a product, documentation of proof that the product meets the relevant requirements is required.

Legal basis: Occupational Safety & Health Act Article 84

PPE items for safety certification: Industrial Safety Helmet / Safety Shoes / Protective Gloves (for chemicals and voltage-resistance) / Dust Mask / Gas Mask / Air-line Mask / Powered Air Purifying Respirator / Protective Clothes (for chemicals and heatproof clothes) / Safety Belt & Harness / Personal eye-protection / Welding Facial Shield / Hearing protectors (ear-plugs or ear-muffs)

PROCESS

Step 1. Document review

Review for appropriateness of product design drawing, structure and material and others to the safety certification standard.

Step 2. Technical assessment

Review for appropriateness of technical ability and production system that is required at the work site to the safety certification standard for maintaining and guaranteeing the safety capability continuously.

Step 3. Product examination

Examination for appropriateness of quality on the product safety to the safety certification standard.

Step 4. Surveillance assessment

Review whether the manufacturer continuously maintain the requirements of the time of obtaining the certification once per year.
