Ansell Provides Donations to Aid Earthquake Victims And Relief Workers in Turkey and Syria

24 February 2023 Iselin, NJ More than 500,000 pieces of personal protective equipment have now left Ansell warehouses, boun d for destinations in Turkey and Syria devastated by recent earthquakes. The product donations include protective masks, surgical and exam gloves for use by healthcare workers plus abrasion and crush resistant industrial quality gloves to safeguard the hands of frontline workers handling building and other dangerous debris.


In addition, an Ansell donation to the Australian Red Cross is being channeled to the Turkish Red Crescent and Syrian Arab Red Crescent national societies through its Türkiye Syria Earthquakes Appeal. Members of these organisations are on the ground meeting the immediate needs of communities in both countries . This emergency relief includes assisting with search and rescue, transportation to hospitals, first aid, distributing food and essential non food items, and providing shelter.

More than 30,000 people are now estimated to have been killed and tens of thousands injured after two major earthquakes struck Türkiye and northern Syria on 6 February. On a dark winter morning at 4.17am, while most people were asleep in their homes, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake caused widespread and catastrophic damage, with the collapse of apartment blocks and office buildings. At midday, a second 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck, resulting in further damage, injury, and loss of life.
