Our History

1893

Dunlop UK establishes a bicycle tyre manufacturing plant in Melbourne, Australia.

Eric Norman Ansell acquires the condom machinery from Dunlop and founded the Ansell Rubber Company.

1905
1946

Ansell develops the first automated glove-dipping machine.

1965

Ansell introduces its Gammex® gamma-sterilized disposable surgeon’s glove.

The Ansell Rubber Company is acquired by Dunlop Australia Limited (previously the Dunlop Rubber Co of Australia Ltd).

1969
1970

From 1970 until 1989, industrial gloves companies are acquired and production expands in Malaysia and USA.

1990

Until 2002, the expansion through acquisitions continue. In 1991, Ansell becomes the world’s largest provider of medical, household and industrial gloves.

Split of Pacific Dunlop, Ansell is the last remaining core business. Company name changed to Ansell Limited.

2002
2003

from 2003 until 2010, Ansell moves HQ to the USA - Focus on Sexual Wellness business with acquisitions of Jissbon (China), Unimil (Poland), Blowtex (Brazil).

2010

A new strategy and organization focused on leveraging position and accelerating growth in the safety space.

From 2011 to 2013, Ansell acquires 5 companies in Sweden, USA, Brazil, France and Korea to expand global coverage and add new capabilities.

2011
2013

Ansell opens new 16,000 square foot state-of-the-art R&D facility in Sri Lanka.

2014

From 2014 to 2017, Ansell acquires 5 companies in the UK, USA and Sri Lanka to expand deeper into Life Sciences and Clothing PPE. The first acquisition, BarrierSafe Solutions Intl., was the largest acquisition, totaling to $600M.

Ansell divests the last of the non core businesses of Sexual Wellness for US 600 mil and transforms to a more focused Safety Company.

2018

Ansell launches a transformation program including a $20M investment to triple manufacturing space Vietnam and many other initiatives, and celebrates its 125th Anniversary
